ARPA stands for Agenzia Regionale per la Prevenzione e l'Ambiente dell'Emilia-Romagna (Regional agency for health prevention and environmental protection in the Emilia-Romagna Region). ARPA is an instrumental organisation of the regional government having its own administrative, accounting and technical autonomy. By May 1st, 1996 it was fully operational in the regional area. Its creation was made possible by gathering all precious experiences and skilled personnel previously working since 1970 in many different regional bodies and offices in the field of health and environment. ARPA's functions and activities cover all questions concerning environmental and collective prevention. Activities and tasks of ARPA (indicated in detail in Regional Law n. 44, April 19th, 1995) are mainly of technical and scientific nature and concern the areas of environmental control, support and analysis, land planning and research, like:
ARPA environmental controls and monitoring are performed through water control monitoring networks (surface water and groundwater), sea monitoring service (chemical and microbiological analysis), meteorological and atmospheric pollution monitoring networks, specific measurement surveys about environmental radioactivity and noise pollution. Marco Deserti was born in Portomaggiore (Italy) in 1959. Laurea degree in Physics, Bologna University in 1985. Four years of cooperation at Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics (FISBAT) of CNR in Bologna. Since 1989, he has been working for the Regional Agency for Prevention and Environment of Emilia-Romagna (ARPA). From 1996, he is responsible of Environmental Meteorology Unit of ARPA-SIM. His main activity refers to application of meteorology to environmental issues, with specific interest in boundary layer meteorology, air quality modelling and monitoring and marine environment. This activity is documented by several scientific publications, reports and meeting presentations. He participates to the EU FP5 FUMAPEX project (Integrated Systems for Forecasting Urban Meteorology, Air Pollution and Population Exposure) and to the European CityDelta model inter-comparison exercise. Enrico Minguzzi was born in Bologna (Italy) on May 6th, 1971. Laurea degree in Physics, Bologna University, in 1996. From 1996 to 2001: employee in the Regional Meteorological Services of Emilia-Romagna, Liguria and Piemonte (all Italian regions); his activity covers meteorological modelling, weather forecast, hydrological applications of limited area models. From 2001 to 2004: works in the environmental meteorology group of the Regional Meteorological Service of Emilia Romagna; his main activity concerns numerical modelling for air quality assessment and forecasting, with particular interest in the meteorological problems. |
