The Laboratoire Interuniversitaire des Systèmes Atmosphériques (LISA) is administrated both by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the Universities Paris 7 and Paris 12. Its field of competence concerns the evolution of planetary atmospheres, with major focus on the terrestrial atmosphere. The methods used are based on field experiments (aircraft, land based stations, satellite…), laboratory works (photochemical smog chamber, spectroscopy properties, experimental simulations…) and modeling (chemical models, chemical-transport models at continental scales). The LISA group involved in the study of air pollution and aerosols has long-standing experience in measurements and modeling of short lifetime species. It has been involved in recent large scale experiments like Expresso (Impact on the atmospheric composition of the biomass burning emissions in West Africa) INDOEX (Indian Ocean Experiment), ESQUIF or ESCOMPTE (Study and Sensitivity of Regional Air Pollution) operating various instruments dedicated to the measurements of aerosol chemical and optical properties and gaseous key species (NOx, NOy, PAN, O3, H2O2, CO…). This group also developed regional and continental chemical transport models in order to analyze and forecast air pollution events. These models are used both by various laboratories and operational administrations.

The LISA atmospheric spectroscopy group is strongly involved in the MIPAS experiment and several ESA funded studies related to MIPAS/ENVISAT have been performed. Also the group is a member of the Expert Support Laboratory for MIPAS. LISA has also developed an emission model for desert dust. This model is used with success in most of the climate models dealing with the effects of dust on climate. LISA is also working on a new biogenic COV emissions model for mid latitudes.LISA contributes to several European and nationally funded projects mainly focused on tropospheric chemistry.

Jean-Marie Flaud is Research Director at CNRS. His research interests are both in high resolution molecular spectroscopy and development of new theoretical methods and in atmospheric physics. In particular: he is contributing to the atmospheric databases (HITRAN,…); he is a member of the Science Advisory Groups of the satellite experiments MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) and SCHIAMACHY (Scanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY); he is a member of the ESL (Expert Support Laboratory) for the MIPAS experiment. J.-M. Flaud is the author of over 250 publications in international refereed journals and two books on molecular properties and line parameters of water and ozone. He is the Director of the French National Program on Atmospheric Chemistry and the Co-organisor of the “International Colloquium on High Resolution Molecular Spectroscopy”. Honnors: "Prix Aime Cotton »from the French Physical Society (1978), Fellow of the Optical Society of America (1986), "Humbolt-Gay Lussac" award from the Humbolt Fondation (1998), Prize “Gentner-Kastler” from the French and German Physical Societies (2002).

Gilles Bergametti is Research Director at CNRS. He is specialized in atmospheric chemistry measurements and modeling on both gaseous and particulate species. He is in charge of the atmospheric modeling group in LISA. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals. He was member of the European Community Science Panel on Atmospheric Composition Change and he is President of the French committee on Ocean/Atmosphere Sciences at INSU (Institut National des Sciences de l’Univers/CNRS). He is also Co-PI of the Geofis team inside the Geotrope project.
